As some of the older members here know, I have been dealing with migraines for the last 15 years.

Been to MD's, neuros, headache specialists, and pain management doctors.

Tried every preventative out there and been on lots of different pain meds.

The MD I have been seeing for the last 9 years is the best.

He has been great about coming up with new things to try and always lets me try anything I want to.

Well, I have been on daily Percocet for the last 2 years and it isn't quite as effective as it once was.

This has happened in the past and we usually just go to a different opiate for awhile and switching them up seems to help.

Now he wants me to try Nucynta.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried this particular drug.

If so, I would be interested in how it worked for you and if you had any side effects from it.

Thank you!

I'm currently on Nucynta for an ovarian cyst. I can't take hydrocodone, so it's a good alternative, and I find it works really well for me for this type of pain. DH had gotten it earlier for migraine, and didn't find it as effective for migraine, but really effective for physical pain. You may find differently, so if it were me, I'd at least give it a shot, so long as my relationship with my doc was good enough that I could go back and say it's not working and get what always had worked.

Thanks Sara.

My doctor told me that if for any reason it doesn't work for me that I can go back to the Percocet or try something else.

I am always worried about trying something different because I have experienced some pretty nasty side effects in the past.

I think I will give it a try though.

Thanks again for your reply.

My only side effects were general body itchyness that pain meds give me, and dry mouth, which most every pain med gave me.

I take it for migraine related pain (head, jaw, neck, and shoulder) when needed and find it helpful. All other pain killers make me nauseous and I find this one is nice and light and has little side effects and non habit forming. It's a relatively new drug.

I tried the Nucynta for 2 weeks and didn't find that it helped the pain as well as the percocet did.

Also it gave me terrible diarrhea!

My doctor told me that diarrhea is one of the side effects and of course I had it.

So, I am back on the percocet for now and maybe I will try something else in the future.

Is it possible that this is as good as it gets for me?

I would like to think not but who knows.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.
