Christmas shopping
I am so behind with my Christmas shopping this year.
I have done some of it in the past some of it online, but when I go shopping (which I do not like anyway) I can more often get good ideas of what to get, by looking what is available once out, passing shop windows, or just by looking at inside goods displays.
Shopping online is completely different.
You have to be more specific, then compare the prices of what you want, whlst all the time you get distracted for all sorts of reasons,so I often end up headachey and exhausted.
I am also not keen to give my financial details all over the web, then getting lots of unwanted e-mails with the possibility of spamming increasing when I order something. Yet, it can be conevenient and quick way, if it works well.
I wonder how other people do their Christams shopping this year: online, or out there "doing the malls" in person, and which do you prefer, and why.

Re: Christmas shopping
we've done the vast majority of our Christmas shopping on-line for the last 5 years or so. I tend to actually get more ideas from online shopping than malls. There's so many things out there, a mall can't handle it all. Plus who wouldn't want to be able to do their Christmas shopping in their PJ's sipping cocoa.
The one thing you do have to look out for online is shipping charges. It's becoming popular for them to not charge shipping, but sometimes they do....and it can be more than double the price of the item.
We signed up for Amazon Prime several years ago. We pay a fee once a year, and then anything we order from them that's listed as available with the prime program is shipped 2nd day free.

Christmas shopping
This year the chemist had some nice presents in the window that were just right for a huge chunk of our list, oh and those strange catalogues that sell useful things like Kleeneze who have nice cards. The big things we are getting from Amazon or Ebay shops. The ebay shops are mostly run by people who have an actual shop and are local businesses so we are still reaching them without the rush.
I do have card fraud insurance though on the credit card which I use for big stuff, but for little stuff I feel OK using paypal because they can't get your bank details.
As for looking for ideas I found a lot of the big stores have their key items for christmas in an ideas for Christmas section. I don't think we miss much by not entering the store, apart from the crowds, the florescent lights. The only thing I can't find online seems to be some decent christmas lights.

Christmas shopping
For the last 6 or 7 years I have gotten to where I pay all my bills and do most all my shopping online.
I have to admit that I miss seeing all the Christmas decor and holiday sights, but every time I have braved it and gone in the last 10 years, I have ended up in the ER.
Mom and I went about 4 years ago and I ended up in the ER in her town.
There are several things that can happen to me.
One is getting overheated. Even if I take my coat off when we get in the door of the store, it can still happen.
Another big trigger for me is strong perfumes or colognes.
Seems they are always being sprayed around especially at Christmas time.
One time when my brother was visiting, he and I went into the Hobby store at the mall.
It smelled like model glue and really strong plastic smell.
That triggered one in less than 30 minutes.
So...that's why I do almost all my shopping from home.
One plus I find is that on most of the sites, you can see reviews about the products before you buy and people are usually brutally honest.
Also, I would never put my Mom thru the shopping experience again because that evening we had to go to the ER in their town and if I remember correctly, we had to wait something like 7 hours before we even got in.
I felt so badly for making her sit there that long.
Anyway, however you all shop, hope you have a wonderful experience.

Re: Christmas shopping
Thank you for reminding me of all the addtional hazards of shooping "the oldfashioned way".
I am so sorry you suffer so much as result of shopping Cindy.
I sympathise with you in many respects:
I don't know why they overheat thes stores everywhere you go, this is terribly annoying. It is not good for the staff working there, either.
I cannot udnerstand why they keep doing it, expecially since heating is so expensive these days.
You do not mention the horror of the everpresent "muzak"? This is probably the worse trigger for me, equal with fluorescent lights, they give me an instant h/a which is difficult to shake off.
I have made already a start on my online shopping, and yes I do use Amazon quite a lot, Brenda, since I have an account with them for years (mainly for books) and they are good on delivery. How much do the charge you for that Free Post Amazon Prime thing? Do you pay it just once, or do you have to renew it every year>
However, I can never stay online too long, since the computer screen (even dimmed to maximum) definitely makes my head worse.
I am not even talking about beiing too easily distracted and constatly forgetting what I was looking for, in the first place when shopping online!
I really love giving presents, one of the greatest pleasure in life is to see those happy smiling faces when loved ones open their presents, but I still have'nt found a way to shop "painlessly".
My problem is that although I love giving, I never really enjoy shopping, no matter how it is done.
