I have suffered from migraines for 13 years but severely for the past 8. I have tried every preventative out there (I think), and nothing is helping. Right now I am taking topamax and inderal and just started wellbutrin xl. My insurance co. is limiting my maxalt to 9 a month, and I am so frustrated and wanting some relief. Thinking of trying botox next, but I know insurance won't cover that. Not only are these headaches affecting my physical being, they are affecting my mental state as well. If anyone else has any advice or just encouraging words, please let me know! I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old who I feel are suffering too bc mommy is hurting so bad!

If you want to try Botox you should fight the insurance company on that. It has now been approved by the FDA For treatment of migraines, so they really don't have much ground for denying it if your doctor says it is indicated. It sounds like from your description you would qualify. You just have to be persistent with them or they try to deny everything

That sounds like alot of preventive meds for little relief. Did you discuss dropping some scripts before starting others ? All those

together would make me a mess. I took them seperately at one time with no relief.

I used to fax my script to Canadian pharmacy for my abortives as my insurance only allowed 9 a month also. In the end I just got all of them online. Less money. I went 5 years with daily M of 7-8 -9 intensity. I finally found a preventive that worked right away and controls good. Clonodine 3 x day. Keep trying scripts and try them long enough. Ask people around you for help some may not know if you need it. Hope your better soon.

My neuro fought for my insurance approval for Botox. It took about 6 months and a series of appeals, but now it's covered. It's the only thing that has helped me.

Can you talk to your doctor about doing the same?

FWIW, I only get 9 Imitrex a month also. But we still got my insurance to cover the Botox.

Thanks for your responses. I have an appointment on Monday and am going to to discuss the Botox with her. The reason I'm taking more than one preventative is bc I had tried so many of them alone that they wanted to try them together to see if it helped. Its obvious it's not helpig though!
