It is now two months into taking vit D. Some of the migraine symptoms are less, so this is partly a sucess. Unfortunately as a result of low vit D they did a bone test and it seems I'm doing a Gwyneth Paltrow. ( lower bone density)

I was wondering how many of us are also wondering down this path and if they have any insight. I thought it was going to be complicated enough avoiding migraine triggers but now I'm reading about acid forming and alkali forming foods and wondering just WHAT CAN I EAT? And what can I do in my life with this as well as migraine.

Something seems to be going on with Thyroid too and it turns out I'm not the only one in the family.

So I am a little confused. I am wondering wether migraine is the actual diagnosis or a symptom of some other thing, I am wondering if after so many years of mucking up the diagnosis I can trust the medical profession, and I am wondering what to do and where to turn in order to turn life around.

the doctors seem to be acting as if there is an entire lifetime to sort this out and as a result are robbing me of pivotal life years and I can just hear a great big clock every morning, wondering if they are actually going to tell me something usefull today or if this long protracted saga is just going to continue going on and on with no answers of what I should be doing, or how to aproach any of my life given whatever the limitations actally are.

Weirdly I could stand it when I thought it was just a matter of time before we found out how to control my brain again. I took comfort in thinking that the rest of me was OK and would probably be waiting for instructions when the manager was back inthe building. But reading through underlying causes of vit D deficiency and bearing in mind my lifestyle and how it doesn't actually seem to fit I am getting very worried. With all the mistakes made so far, if they manage to tell me what is actually wrong I will probably be unable to believe them.

The route of thinking went like this, in case it is of any use.

daily migraines, mostly with aura symptoms and little pain in the head, transferred to shoulders and back, confusion, light sensitivity, nausea, visual disturbances, difficulties with speech and comprehension, memory.

various treatments from doctors, usual list tried with surprisingly bad side effects on every attempt at medication with a ridiculous ability to sleep almost all day and it not effect ability to sleep following night.

Eventually i questioned serotonin because serotonin reuptake inhibitors(hope I got this bit right sorry about spelling) made things worse and I had such low points emotionally that I had become really scared. I thought that I might be suffering with low amounts of serotonin and took some purchased from a helath food shop. It was fantastic for 12 hours then things went a bit crazy so I had to stop them. I then thought about what is a precursor so asked about vit D. from this we ended up with a low result in blood tests. and a lower bone density test.

Since taking the vit D I have noticed that I am spending less time occupied by migraine although I am still getting daily symptoms. What is staying is visual disturbance, confusion at points in the day and a bit of a sore throat whic thinking about it has been there a long time but I have sort of forgotten about it because it is there all the time.

Sorry this is so long, my head is all over the place. To top it all my old doctor has left and now I might not be able to see the same one each time for a while so I am totally on edge.

Di,

I think you are going in exactly the same circles as me including thyroid and sore throat on my list of woes.

My next big question mark is B12. Lack of giving pernacious anemia. This came up on my grandmother's grandmother's death certificate. Add my Gran being a celiac and having to have B12 shots I am going to wander down this circular path for a while I think.

I am actually feeling the best I have felt for a long time. The reason I think being, I have now stopped ALL additives including vitamins and minerals. Excess I think can be worse in some cases than defiency. If you over supply your body with only one ingredient, but don't get the mix right of all ingredients, to say produce a hormone, I think you can probably do yourself more damage, if you get the concept of that.

I don't over exert myself now, which is just finally accepting I can't, end of story - things just take longer and I am taking very active steps to make my life as stress free as possible - financially, emotionally. I am not going paranoid about food, but try for only fresh ingredients - nothing processed.

I think we have caught up with medical knowledge to a degree. That granmother who died of the B12 defiency was only 52. We are all living a lot longer and this sort of dramatic illness is now fixable. But I think it will be the patients learning of what incidental things are happening to our bodies that will extend medical knowledge of how people who are living longer, also FEEL WELL.

I think there is something in my family history too that suggests this route along the B12 thing too, but then these things are linked when you look into what is needed so that another bit of our bodies can work so it sort of makes sense.

Unfortunately for me I had a period of not taking anything and I could not function. I had such little energy I felt like I wouldn't be able to lift my feet on the way to the village shop round the corner and spent a lot af time sleeping.

I have made a list for the doctor tomorrow, hopefully I have everything covered. I will add the B12 thing to the list and if anything useful is mentioned will let you know.

Best wishes

good point Martin thankyou.

have met with doc and he is to look at things but as it was our first meeting as he put it he will have to go away and think about things, so I got less answers today than I hoped for, but more are coming.

best wishes

Di, you might want to look into magnesium and progesterone to go with the vitamin D. This combination seems to be helping me. I have just started a thyroid supplement too. Will have to wait for a couple of months to see how it effects things.

I am waiting to see a specialist about the thyroid I think. I wish I could just start something now but I suppose I have to wait.

I have been taking magnesium for a month now and there is a bit of a difference.

best wishes
