Being in a dark room vs not Empty Being in a dark room vs not

Why do you think some people have to be in dark rooms, until the migraine is over and some don`t? If mine is really bad, I`ll go to bed earlier than usual but other than that, I keep moving.I was just talking to someone who told me that if he gets a migraine(actually he`s only had 2), he`s in a dark room until it`s over. He said that he can`t move. I know someone else like this who gets migraines a couple times a month and he also has to be in a dark room with no noise, etc.

Photophobia. Light hurts like heck. I cannot be anywhere near bright anything when I'm migraining
badly. I don't know anyone who can, I'm sure they are out there though.

I also can't be around certain smells or any loud sounds. I'm fine with white noise and lavender or
peppermint, but it has to be LIGHT lavender and peppermint, not overwhelming.

If my migraines are really bad the light does bother me but if I were to go lay down in a room, for some reason it makes it worse.

The light and sound bother me, but I get so many migraines, I figure I would be unemployed if I went to "lie down in a dark room" every time. One of my BF says she's impressed with my pain tolerance Laughing.

Kate, sometimes I can't lay down either. It makes it so much worse.

It's funny what we do when we have migraines. My poor kid is going to be well adjusted to dark
rooms! I turn off all the lights and close the blinds. I leave a couple of little night lights plugged
into the wall sockets for her to see so she doesn't bump into too many things Laughing

I often have to close the curtains. My poor hubby says he feels like he's living in a cave most of the time. Bright light hurts if I'm migraining and can trigger one if I'm not. Sometimes I lie down with mine, but often I can't do that either because it makes it worse. If I do lie down, I'm generally propped up on a bunch of pillows. I have to have some very light noise though. I find having something else to listen to keeps me from dwelling on my agony too much.

My hearing is so sensitive during a migraine that I will put on the tv or radio so that I can hear it perfectly well with a migraine. After it goes away, I'll turn it back on and I can't hear it at all.

Oddly enough, I find myself sitting in my La-z-boy rocker, rocking, rocking, rocking...

Thats that leg shaking movement I was talking about in some other post Brenda!
I have two rockers in my house and thats the same thing I do if I sit in either of them. If I lay
down I simply just shake my leg. It's like I don't notice I'm doing it but I do at the same time.
It sounds rediculous but it's very hard to explain.

I think, as a result of the chronic daily migraines, I suffer from the photophobia constantly. I spend most of my time in a dark room in our basement. I'm unable to lay flat because it increases the pounding in my head. I spend a lot of time in the recliner, which elevates my head and gives just enough support to my upper back, neck and head to prevent the pounding.

Like Brenda, I have to have some noise, very soft, in the room to keep my mind occupied so I don't dwell on the pain. I've started listening to audio books, which has helped.

I'm called Vampire Woman at work because I'll often retreat to a small office in the back and leave the lights turned off.

Of course some moron will come back and flip them on and say "can't you see better now?". Gee, I'm only 50, I hadn't figured that out yet!
