Cervical Epidoral
Hi Everyone,
I thought I had come to an all time low, (and probably did) I was using 27 doses of triptans a month plus I don't know how many injections of Toridal.
I have recently found a Pain Management Dr. who did a procedure on me yesterday called "Cervical Epidoral". Now first I must set the stage here, I woke yesterday with a killer migraine at 4 a.m. Took an imitrex, and shot of toridal, then again at 7 another shot of toridal, because I had the appointment with this dr at 10 a.m. ( almost didn't make the appt,)
He talked to me and asked how much meds I take and when I told him, he said so many triptans can cause heart problems and that the toridal can cause stomach bleeding and bleeding in the ears, and possible coma!
So he suggested Oxycodine, 5 mg.. and said I want you to instead of reaching for the imitrex or toridal, to reach for this for the headaches now. I asked if I would become addicted and he told me at this low dose and if I use it only as I need it, no.
He then did the procedure,,, it was tough, he did 6 injections. He said around c-2, c-3, and c4. when I was done, I was very dizzy and light headed, but able to walk. I was glad my sister took me cuz, not sure it I could have drove home. We sat in the waiting room for about 5 minutes for me to gather my bearings. then went on our journey, Lunch, then home. My headache (yea, that monster from 4 a.m. was gone!)
I had a slight headache we I got home so I took one of the pain meds and at bedtime such soreness in the injection area, and another slight headache so I took a pain med before bed, I am happy to announce this morning, I mostly have stiffness, and soreness, and another slight headache, that I am not sure I will treat yet.
I am to call him in 3 days and if this was a success he will do a lazer thing on the back of my head in 2 places. (it is actually the only area of my head that hurts now)
I asked him how long this relief will last, he said at least 6 months. He just had a woman come in who had this epidoral thing done on her back, she has been painfree since 2005, and is just coming in for another treatment...
I will keep you posted, I know it sounds to good to be true, and we shall see about that. But right now I am a pretty happy lady!!!!!

Re: Cervical Epidoral
Wow Sherri this sounds interesting. I have never heard of it before. Isnt it wonderful for a doctor to actually care and try something else with hope of improvement! Keep us postsed. I am like you where I get chronic daily headaches and to get to a point where I am only taking pain meds 5-6 times a month would be great.
I commend you for trying this. Sometimes when we are in that much pain we will try just about anything.
I think you were the one thinking about the surgery by that doctor in Cleveland, am I right? Have you gotten any feedback on that procedure?
Good luck and I hope you have the relief you were hoping for.

Re: Cervical Epidoral
Thanks for posting about this Sherri. I think I'm having similar problems. I see the pain doctor in less than 2 weeks and I will be asking about this.
Hope it just continues to improve for you. You deserve a long reprieve, Sherri.

Re: Cervical Epidoral
I really hope this works our for you!! I take 5mg oxycodone, as needed. I have never noticed any sort of addiction, or needing it for more than my pain needs it. Many times I actually cut the pill in half. If I have a headache that feels like I will need medication, like its going to grow into something huge, I take half the pill. If it hasn't lowered the pain or kept it at bay within 30-40 minutes, I take the other half. This also cuts my usage down and seems to work pretty well. there are times i don't need the whole dose. Good Luck

Sheri
Glad the epidural worked for you. The first one I had worked well as the cortisone in the epidural reduces inflammation. It seemed to resolve the bulging disk in my neck that started my headache cycle. Later epidurals did not work however. I think it depends on what the underlying cause of your headaches are.
I also take 5 mg of oxycodone, and I don't think it the least bit addictive (can't even imagine why someone would want it for other than pain relief). I've been trying trip tans, but they don't seem to do anything for me.
