Lying Down/Standing Up Empty Lying Down/Standing Up

Post  pilot57 Mon Mar 07, 2011 4:44 pm

I am wondering if any of you feel better while lying down? Sometimes in the morning I wake up feeling pretty good, but within a couple of minutes after getting out of bed, the tension and pain start...like turning on a switch. I cannot attribute this to noise, light, sound or smell (to which I am sensitive).

I do feel better during the day if I nap for even a few minutes or just lie down. But once I'm upright, the chronic daily migraines start again.

Is there anyone else that experiences similar symptoms?

Thanks...Ann

PS I think this board is wonderful. Thanks to Ronda and all who share.

Have you had a spinal tap with opening and closing pressure readings? When someone says their headache subsides when lying down, first thing I think of is changing intercranial pressure. Best wishes.

Lying Down/Standing Up Empty Spinal Tap

No, I have not had a spinal tap. I'm trying to avoid more pain....but I know that could be an answer.

Thanks. Ann

Ann,

Yes I generally feel better after I lie down if it is not too big of a headache.
My pattern for many years was to wake up fine. The headache would start between 2-4 pm. I'd struggle on as long as I could, but would generally be in bed right after dinner. Next day, same thing.

With me, the headache gets better when I get up. Like this morning, I woke up with a moderate headache, after a half an hour or so, it is down to a low level headache. I am also sure to get a headache when I sit in front of my desk top computer. I normally use my lap top when I am on the recliner, that seems to be ok.

I think that my head position has a lot to do with my headaches; i.e., the sub-occipital muscles must be coming into play. Like last Wednesday, I was feeling pretty good, so I decided to rearrange some paintings in my house. While moving the paintings, I could feel the back of my head muscles. That afternoon and the next day I had a moderate headache. I finally took some baclofen Thursday night, the next day I was back to a very low level headache.

Lying Down/Standing Up Empty Neck Muscles

Post  pilot57 Tue Mar 08, 2011 4:32 pm

Thanks for your replies.

Martin...I am certain that my headaches are related to my neck muscles, too. I can push on some of the muscles at the base of my neck and make the pain radiate over my left eye which is what happens when I have a bad migraine. My massage therapist can release the muscles, but the tension always returns.

It is interesting that your headaches are better when you are upright. We are all so different.

anni, i just wanted to put in my two cents about spinal taps, aka lumbar puncture. i have had four of these.

none was painful, not at all. they were done by 4 different people. of course, a lot depends upon the expertise of the person doing it.

if one stays flat for a time afterward, one doesn't get a "spinal headache". i didn't. for what it's worth, dianne
