yep, it's always the best to have the drug companies funding the studies. ha!
personally, i've never been able to connect the dots of barometer readings or weather. my migraines just are.
pen, i wish you wouldn't beat yourself up so, for not being able to stand the pain. PAIN GETS VERY VERY OLD. everyone has different coping mechanisms. yours seems to be blogging and posting here, and that's great. it's a distraction.
my personal distraction is just to keep busy in all kinds of ways, constantly seeing stuff that should be done or organized or cleaned in the house. i force myself to get up and move, because lying down makes my head worse. but then, i'm built that way, hyper. dianne

weather gets me quite badly pen.
i can tell as a storm comes in, and as it departs. rapid baro pressure really trigger bad HAs for me. the High pressure systems that clear out a bad storm tend to cause worse HA's than when low pressures come in.
location, location, location. with your climate you'll definitely have a series of high, low, high, low....and throw in stationary fronts.
where the jet stream travels (alot of the time there's a powerful jet over the great lakes) and it acts like a highway for the pressure and storm systems to travel over.
what makes things worse for migrainuers, is that this up and down stuff can make you very open to sinus infections. it's just a nasty continuous circle.

The weather affects me big time. I live in an area of Ontario which has insane weather. We are surrounded by the great lakes, and our weather is extreme as you can get. +40 Celsius with 90% humidity in the summer, and minus -40 in the winter at times. We get tornados in the summer, and have had things as bizarre as... Thunder Snow! That's thunder storms, during snow storms in the dead of winter.
I work a seasonal job as my main job, and I am off the the winter right now. I can not look at a weather report, and wake up in the morning knowing there's something going on weather wise before I even look out the window. The pressure I feel on my head is ridiculous.
The thing with me is, it's the changes. EG it can rain for a week and I adjust to it. But when it goes back to sun, I will end up with a migraine. So it's not just a case of bad weather causing problems. It's abrupt changes in the weather.

I dont honestly know if I am weather effected or not.
I dont think this sample is very conclusive.
Maybe as with seemingly everything about this illness.
We are al different.

Let me at 'em! I have been logging my pain (whether I take pills or not) almost a year now and the pain correlates EXACTLY with the barometric pressure. Not just weather fronts that we can see by clouds rolling in or whatnot, but even when the pressure just changes through the day.
It's a trigger for some and not others. We are all different after all. I think too many people want everyone to be the same in every way and at some point we are going to have to realize that it's just not the case.

I think they might be asking the wrong people?
As I said, I cant determine for myself, but enough people here can correlate their migraines and weather.
Maybe we can put them straight...

Re: Whether the weather affects us or not?
I forgot to mention in my original post, everyone in my family who suffers from migraines has the same issues with the weather I do.
And it's not a case of knowing there is a storm coming, and getting stressed out over it, hence willing myself into a migraine (a theory I have heard before). I don't even have to look at a weather report. I can feel a storm coming a day away. I have been outside on a day where you would swear it was going to rain from looking at the sky, and told people that I just didn't think it was going to rain based on how my head felt ... and my accuracy is shocking. At several of my outdoor jobs they actually called me 'the weatherman'. It would all be kind of funny or interesting if it weren't for some of the ridiculous pain that comes along with it.

I recently moved from a state with frequent rain storms to Arizona where it's generally sunny all day. I can't say it's had any effect on the headaches. So I wish it were as easy as moving.

Re: Whether the weather affects us or not?
I dont want the weather ot be a factor. In England we have so much of it.
We dont seem to hacve defined seasons any more, just a lot of weather.
You can go out in summer here in a T shirt and take sunglasses, jacket and umberella...
Ya never know!!!
But, as I have said, I dont know if I am affected.
It is hard to determine when it is al so changeable...
Given I cant move and cant do anything about the weather, I would rather not have it as a trigger.
But it seems to be a point of differing opinions in the press.
Although not so here.
I also posted this on my FB group, and immediately a few people said, nope, they are affected for sure.
Moving...hmm...Its like that song "Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you."

Re: Whether the weather affects us or not?
It was mentioned once earlier in the thread, but I think a key point is that everyone is different. Not everyone's migraines are the same, and people don't have the same triggers. Combine the that with that fact that there seems to be more experts DON'T know about migraines than they do know, and I find it funny that they can dismiss anything as a cause/trigger.
I will admit I get frustrated when I read articles that dismiss weather as a factor though. My doctor, massage therapist, and chiropractor have all told me they see an increase in patients with migraine/headache problems during some of our crazy weather changes. And I know without a doubt the weather affects my migraines, and other migraine sufferers I know.

Re: Whether the weather affects us or not?
Well put tdu. I don't dismiss weather as a problem for some. Only reporting my own experience. And I certainly have a repeated problem on airplanes which may well be due to rapid pressure changes. So it seams reasonable that others who are even more sensitive to this could be effected by weather.

Re: Whether the weather affects us or not?
It does make me wonder sometimes. Given the enormous apparent differences in our triggers and symptoms.
And the inconsistency of the drugs they give us...
Do we actually all have the same disease....
I am sure there are other illnesses which have this strangeness as well.
Just seems odd to me....

My children's neurologist thinks
pressure changes affect headaches. My mother also believes her pain (fibromayalgia) is affected by the weather.
A weather connection hasn't seemed obvious to me when I was trying harder to track my kids' migraines, though. And they haven't wanted to be bothered by questions and pain-rating scales, so that has made them more difficult to track. Now, for the daughter who still suffers, I pretty much just mark whether she went to school complaining, or had to stay home. Anybody know if there is a website that shows weather history for a particular area?
One thing I did notice was that although even though I expected they might get a migraine when it's stormy(like my mother), that didn't seem to accurately predict one. Many times the migraines have come when the weather cleared up. And that article mentioned that the return to higher pressure was more of a problem for some. I guess I ignored that pattern because it wasn't what I expected.
Even if it WAS the weather, what can I do about THAT? It's not like we can pick up and leave our jobs behind. I guess just trying to eliminate other triggers might keep them below the migraine threshhold. But that's tough to do with a kid.
