In a different thread I asked MGB to send us butterflies in winter if something tragic happened. Do any of you believe in signs and signals from loved ones? Any experiences? I've had two, the second being the oddest, but most hard to explain.

The first is straight forward. My mother was very close to my eldest son. Mom and Dad were in poor health and lived in Vegas. We built a house here in the mid-west large enough to accommodate my family and it had in-laws quarters for them. Mom liked to garden and helped me do some of the landscaping on one of her visits. Six months after the home was completed and before they moved in permanently, my mother died unexpectedly during a routine surgery.

Fast forward a few years to my eldest leaving for college. I was bereft. My youngest son is handicapped and I had leaned a lot on my eldest and it made us close and tight. The day we were packing his car I was standing in the front yard crying and I looked down at part of the garden. I realized that one of my day lilies that my Mom had planted was in complete bloom...in August. It is a spring bloomer. I got my son and we stood in front of the flower and talked to Grandmother. It comforted me greatly.

The second has to do with Dad. Hubby and my youngest son, Robert, were Christmas shopping. Hubby ran a stop sign and they got t-boned, right in the passenger door side where Robert sitting. Robert did not even cry, wasn't hurt, was just mad cause he had to wait a little for his dinner. Due to the damage to the truck we were surprised and very thankful Robert wasn't injured.

The next day I got a bill at my address in the Midwest. The bill was addressed to my father but at my address. My Dad had been dead for 3years.

The bill was from Protection One Security Systems. I have never had any type of security system for my home. The bill covered the current month of security services, the address listed for location of service was for the home they owned in Las Vegas. The one we sold three years before! So I called the company with a chip on my shoulder. It was right before Christams and I was having to fight about a bill for my dead Dad. I called the number on the bill and gave them the account number. No such account number. Then I give them the invoice number...they can't find it. No such invoice. They can find no record of the bill I'm holding in my hand. Now I'm being put on hold and VERY upset.

And then it dawned on me. Pop was a man of grand gestures. He was the one that no matter how many people were at the table at the restaurant, he would loudly and gregariously insist on paying the bill, AND leaving a healthy tip. He was generous to charities, but never anonymously...he liked having the plaque with his name on it. He liked recognition.

You may think I'm silly, sacra religious or even crazy, but what I LIKE to think happened soothes and comforts me. I think my Dad was protecting Robert the day of the accident and kept him from getting hurt, to the extent that Robert didn't even cry, even though with his autism he hates loud noises and being startled. Dad protected his grandson but Dad wasn't finished. He needed me to know he did it. Exclamation

I had the letter framed and put it out every Christams. Then we moved and I don't know what happened to it. I keep hoping it will show up in a random box that never got unpacked. I loved explaining to people why I have a framed copy of an unpaid bill. It represents the day Roberts Guardian Angel saved him from injury.

Has anyone else had something like that happen? I tell hubby I will send him signals. I've always told him to remarry if I pass first. I don't want him to be lonely. If I like her I'll send rainbows...if he picks a bar room bimbo who is mean to my boys it will be chains rattling

I like your stories, too, Charlotte. Especially the rainbows/chains story! Smile

I don't have a story of my own to relate, but I will share one my aunt told me. Her husband who was an avid bird watcher passed away. The next day, she was grieving badly for him. She walked out onto her porch and there was the most beautiful bird she'd ever seen sitting on the railing singing a beautiful song. She said she'd never seen a bird like it before or since, but she knew that it was Uncle Paul sending her a message that he was ok.

Charlotte,

Of course I don't really know, but I like to think our loved ones who are no longer with us send us messages at times.

The week after my Mom died a couple of things happened that were unusual. We both love birds and she knew I love airplanes, especially WWII vintage aircraft. I had an unusual experience with a crow that week.

The other things was a fly over by a WWII fighter, a P-51 Mustang. True, there are a fair amount of Mustangs around, for them being so old. But I live in an area of fairly low population and it isn't that easy to fly around here. So that week after she died, I was walking down the street by her apartment. I looked up just in time to see a Mustang flying. I hadn't seen one around here before and I haven't seen one since. I think she was sending me a message by showing me something that was particularly significant to me.

I had traveled extensively with my folks when I was younger. Before they passed they took myself and my eldest to San Diego, where among other things we went wahle watching. I fell in love with several cities, London and San Fransico being the top two. I didn't have the resources my parents did but I vowed to take my eldest to these two cities and saved for a long time so I could.

When we were on the ferry to Alcatraz in the San Francisco we were stunned to see a whale breech by the boat. Everyone forgot about Acatraz and watched this beautiful creature as she played in the water escorting us to Alcatraz. I don't know if it's true but the ships captain said that seldom happens.

And yes, I am convinced that it was my mother coming on part of our journey with us, as she would have been had she been alive.

A slightly different experience has made it so that I don't fear death.

My grandmother died of pancreatic cancer in 1965. My mother was an RN so we moved in with Grandma so that she could die at home (this was long before the days of hospice). Grandma had been in a coma for several days and the family knew the end was near so they had gathered in her room. Grandma opened her eyes and calmly said "Harold". She closed her eyes and died.

Harold was the name of my grandfather who had died when my mother was 7, in 1939.

Because of that story I have never feared death. My Dad had been clinically dead once for several minutes with respiratory heart failure. After they brought him back and he was concious and coherent I excitedly asked him if there were bright lights and tunnels. He said no, but it was the most peaceful relaxing feeling he had ever had and he was disappointed when they "woke' him.

My college roommate died in a car wreck in 1994 when she was 9 months pregnant with her 2nd child. I was 3 months pregnant with my first. I know for a fact that she visits me in my dreams, even 17 years later. I am sure she is watching over my children and me- sometimes I feel like if I turn around fast enough I'll see her!

Holy Cow!

I hope no one got any butterflies, as that would imply I have kicked the bucket and am posting from a 3rd dimention. Well, we could all be in a 3rd dimention to begin with....ahhhhh.....

Let that one twist in your mind for a while--sory for the headache.

Yes, I've had some goofy things. I think a few of you know that I am rather superstitous. Nothing really in particular. My grandmother would tell me some stories about her mother-in-law. A German lady that came here sometime in the 1800's. Granny said she was very superstituous about things--like a pregnant woman should never walk under a clothes line. In granny's words, "she believed the most stuipidest things."

If something shows up oddly, I'll just call it out to my dad as being either a good sign, or a bad. Don't know why. Sometimes I'm right, others I'm wrong. It's become a bit of a joke....but.

I think it is a good sign, a sign if a robbin or rabbit is in the yard close to the house. I like to think it's my mother's presence.

I did get a dreadful vision about a month before my mother passed.

I was walking at our park on the lake. I looked down and my shoe was coming untied. I bent down, tied it, and as I came up I saw a beautiful spring view of the water, the woods, and the sun. I swear I had a "silent voice" tell me that mom was going to die. A dreadful feeling with a stunningly peaceful view. She passed a month later.

The night before her burial, it rained and cleared while we were at the funeral home with a massive rainbow overhead. That really sent a chill down your spine, but had an uplifting feeling as well. A few shots of whiskey were consumed that night.

For those of you that don't know me.... I attempted suicide last year........Od'd, received successful CPR, on a vent for a few days, given a 20% chance for recovery..... but I recovered, obviously.
In the year before the actual attempt, i would lie in bed every night, cry and pray to die.
One night as I layed there crying and praying... I turned to my side and opened my eyes..... right there at eye level was what i can only describe as a pile of feathers, not bird feathers, but these giant feathers.... and they glowed........ a strange glow that i cannot describe.
I lie there for a while staring at it...... I was wide awake, not a dream I am positive.
I finally closed my eyes to rest them and when i opened them it was gone.
I didnt look up to see what was at the top of the pile of feathers.........
I like to think that it was an angel watching over me in my time of desperation...... I did go on to make the attempt months later, and i survived when i wasnt expected to.... maybe the angel was still with me......

I have had many signs by both my mother in law and my father that they have visited me. First my mother in law passed two months before I was to marry her son. On her death bed I told her I loved her son and would never leave him. A week before the wedding we were picking out CD's to play at our reception that we were having at my home. I could not find my Linda Ronstate (Sp) Cd and started to look for it. I looked in a spot that she ( in my head) told me to look and there it was! It was in a spot I would never have guessed.

We must have put over 35 CD's in our player and shuffled them and the first song played was "Our Song!" I felt she had a hand it that too.

My dad has come to me in many ways. It scares my mom but I welcome his visits. He has kept me out of harms way twice and touched me as I was racking the lawn. My dad loved yard work as I do. He pulled my belt loop.

I know these things sound strange but to me they happened. I have always had a bit of sixth sence so to speak. Nothing I have done anything about. It is a bit scary though. I do welcome my loved ones who have passed.

PS I did not read all of the posts above although I did read Beth's and I am very thankful you pulled through. I remember the time you posted and told up about it. I did not know they gave you only 20% to live. The lord was with you.

Also to Amy ( I think) about your college roomate. I do believe she is right there with you. Such a horrible thing to have happened. Was the child saved? I feel she is with you always. I am so sorry for your loss.

kimsmom - i enjoyed reading your post! My roommate was able to deliver her son before she died but he was stillborn. I just got a Christmas card from her mom. I'm glad we've stayed in touch. It's almost 17 years and I still think about Joanne every day.
