Kindle or Nook
The Nook can play Soduko, and can access Facebook.
The Kindle can read aloud to you.
Any real-life experience with either one?
I am leaning toward the Nook.

Nook, nook, nook. I like the nook because it works with free eBook downloads that you can get through your public Library. The Kindle is proprietary ( meaning it doesn't play well with others ) and will only work with books you purchase through Amazon.

I have the Nook and love it. I can trade books with my mom and daughter, which is great. I also like that you can read it outside!

My hubby has been able to convert books from other places into a format that's usable with a kindle ... no problem.

Re: Kindle or Nook
I have the newest Kindle (3G). It has electronic ink, which means it doesn't light up. I also have a cover for it that hooks up to the power in the Kindle so the cover has a light. As a migraineur, I have to say it is easy on my eyes. I get eye strain from my computer monitor but I have read for a couple of hours straight (on my Kindle) and have had no eye strain.
Kindle and Amazon have announced that Kindle owners will soon be able to share books. I am not sure how this will happen but if you share a book with someone, they get to read it on their Kindle for 2 weeks. While they have it, you will not be able to access it until their 2 weeks is up.
Amazon has lots of books for free and inexpensively priced ones (99¢-$5.99). Most books are in the $8-$9 range.
The 3G has cell phone technology so you can download books from anywhere you have a cell service (AT&T I believe). It doesn't cost anything for the wireless connection.
I haven't done it but you can access blogs and email on the Kindle as well as subscribe to magazines and newspapers.
I love my Kindle and have no experience with any other e-readers so I'm a bit prejudiced. If you're interested, I participate at a discussion forum for Kindle users as well as other e-readers. The people there are very friendly and they list the free books they find online. PM me and I will give you the address.

Re: Kindle or Nook
Excellent post!
I have been wavering between the 2 for about 6 months now! Whilst I twiddle my thumbs, being extremely indecisive, both Kindle and Nook are getting updated editions!
I'd really love an ipad but just can't justify the cost, especially as I have a laptop and an iphone.
I read books with my ibook application on the phone, but yes, Pen, it is tiny!
I am slightly leaning towards the Nook, as hubby has had bad experiences with Amazon and I think I can justify my purchases more to him if I go with B&N, but I can be persuaded to either side!
Meanwhile, I'll keep expanding my supply of books I enjoy finding at used bookstores for $.61, plus 3.99 shipping and handling!!!
I love the idea of these e-book readers but I don't know if it will ever compete with my delight in getting my hands on used, slightly stinky books!!!

I'm leaning toward Nook, but leaving the ultimate decision up to my husband. I like Barnes and Noble.

Here's is Amazon's Kindle page. I thought you might enjoy looking around.

I'm glad to see you enjoying your Kindle so much, Leslie! I thought you would. I am with you in enjoying the electronic ink they use. I love that I can read when my head is bothering me somewhat and not have glare like I do on a computer screen or ipod.

Do the other e-readers have electronic ink?

Re: Kindle or Nook
Do any of you who enjoy e-readers like paper books? Do they bother your eyes? Is it hard to hold them when your head, arms, and neck are hurting? I'm curious how you feel about hard copy.

I never tried reading a paper book while migraining. I have read my Kindle though while suffering from a mild migraine attack. The difference being, I have selected the font size. Paper books cannot be altered.

Re: Kindle or Nook
I can read a paper book when I have a migraine providing my vision doesn't get blurry. I do enjoy paper books very much. I didn't think I'd like the Kindle because of that, but the transition was much easier than I expected. Another thing I like about Kindle (others probably have the same feature) is that I can easily increase the font size if my vision is a little blurry and still try to lose myself in the book.
