Has anyone taken diamox and topamax together? I am taking topamax and was prescribed diamox for when I am living in the mountains. Both physician and pharmacist say no contraindications, but I have my doubts.

Diamox is a diuretic.
Topamax is an anti-seizure medication (anticonvulsant).

Why do you think they shouldn't be combined?

They have similar actions in one important sense: they are both "carbonic anhydrase inhibitors" to some degree, which means they can increase your serum chloride and decrease another compound(creating an "acidodic metabolic acidosis"). Clinically, with both you could easily get tingling all over, which could possibly be countered by taking potassium(or fruits etc.)...but it is best to try and avoid taking them together.....L.Robbins,M.D.
