Whew, scheduling your healthcare.... Empty Whew, scheduling your healthcare....

I have a big appreciation for my family doc and his staff. Have a bit of a busy doc schedule coming up. Spent about 2 hours on the phone coordinating out of town appointments. I was able to schedule 2 docs on the same day--helps with having to make multiple trips.

There's a "go to" person at my family doc that I usually call if I need some extra help with things like tests. Since I was able to move up an appointment much earlier than I expected, my doc's going to order some lab work that will be helpful for the specialist.

The people in the background can make or break a process--I try and manage my care the best way I can, and it takes a lot of time but pays off at the visit.

In June I scheduled appts to see my oncologist and my neuro on the same day. They are both two hours away. One appt was in the morning and one in the afternoon.

My onco ended up running so far behind I was late for my neuro even though I had 3 hours between the appts. She did offer to call his office for me. I was going to be less than 15 minutes late so I said, "No, thank you."

It is such a relief to get it all over and done w/ though. Good luck with your appts.

I had to laugh about managing to get them on the same day. I used to find I had to wait a couple months to get into my neuro for my checkups. "I would like to try to get in on the same day I see my oncologist." are magic words. The office girls always work me in so I odn't have to make two trips.

Hahah ... another Porsche lover ...

No, not me, but my husband. To say that he is obsessed is not doing his passion justice. He also worships at the temple of Top Gear (I don't know if you are familiar with it, but in the UK it is a very popular car show) and wants to be "the Stig" and Jeremy Clarkson in one person.

He got into racing a few years ago and I am worried sick that he is going to kill himself in the process. But I find it impossible to ban his dangerous passion outright as he takes such pleasure out of it.

Still, I wonder what it is about man and motor ....

yup survivor, it is a bit of a beg and struggle to try and coordinate out of town appointments. luckily these docs are only about 1.5 hours away.

one time, i had one doc cancel on me one time going to johns hopkins. it's about a 1,000 mile round trip. gas, boarding the dog, hotel, food, cab adds up, along with massive frustration.

i was able nudge the schedule a bit. both doc appointments will take 1-2 hours, so i have a good break in between the two to get a nice lunch in, then stop for dinner on my way home.

i'm trying to get a majority of out of town trips done before late fall, when winter might show it's ugly head. still have to get snow tires!

can't say more about how nice my family doc's people are. i think i'm on the "you're totally screwed, and we'll do our best for you" list. makes things go a bit smoother when you have someone that can at least pull down lab and test results and fax them to you for all the "big doc" appointments.

Haha, Petzi.....!

There's nothing like a Porsche 911--the sound of a flat 6 with gobs of power. I watch Top Gear on BBC America and get quite a hoot out of the show.

I am biased about Porsche....a very fun car to drive, wash, stare at. Built like a tank.

I would like to take a few laps out on the track. I can understand why your husband likes racing so much.

My dad and I visit some races here, and show our Porsche/BMW enthusiasm.

Now, if I could just squeeze a GT2 RS into the budget, I'd have some fun!

I am car illiterate to such a degree, that I don't even know the model of Porsche my husband has got. He assures me it is the dogs ******* and the bees knees. All I know is that it is a black monster with steel reinforcement crisscrossing at the back and a fire extinguisher in front of the passenger seat. The fact that there has to be a fire extinguisher is totally freaking me out. Plus it is so big I never know where to put my bloody handbag. The seats are so low with double seat belts that you have the feeling your bum is dragging along on the tarmac. It is also so embarrassingly loud that I usually refuse to be seen in it.

Hubby is mainly racing in Germany, Belgium and Austria (Nuerburg Ring, Spa, Salzburg Ring ...).

Funny that you have Top Gear over there. Despite not being interested in cars I have to say that even I enjoy watching it. Recently the Stig’s identity has been lifted. Shock Horror! Now the BBC wants to ban him from writing his memoires, because apparently he signed a confidentiality agreement. Hey ... more power to the Stig. I am sure his memoires would be a best seller.
