A friend is asking me if Anna could be experiencing temporal arteritis. Had to look that up. Do you think it is possible? Her vision is no better today. Going on eleven days now. Still waiting for an appointment with her neuro-op but going to her optometrist. today.

Whew, that's a tough one Cheryl. I know she's been sick, but new stuff?

No immediate diagnosis on that one....except symptoms.

From the past 11 days, has her vision changed significantly?

This ER vascular stuff. Since Anna probably has a global inflammatory process going on to begin with, a possibility. BUT, this is a very complex area.

I know an excellent retinal specialist here that would see her in a heartbeat, but that's not going to help.

Retinal exam w/slit lamp should help. Her opthamologist would be best.

I wouldn't get too wrapped on this one....If we read about a lot of diseases, no doubt we'd find symptoms in all of us.

Get her checked as soon as you can. Arteritis is not a fast diagnosis.

Yes, eleven days ago she woke up with sudden vision loss.

I guess we'll find out how bad it is in about thirty minutes. She had a new HA behind her eyes--very severe. None of it is much better.

G.P. said a new migraine variant (his guess).

Neuro said ocular migraine. May not get better, he said, YIKES!

No pappiledema.

She's scheduled to have an LP in two weeks with neuro in Chicago.

Trying to get her in to see the neuro-op. Have an appointment with ophthamologist at our university hospital in less than two weeks.

Optometrist can speed up the process to see neuro-op, if necessary.

So today we'll find out something concrete, I suppose.

This has never happened to her before, not like this.

My friend pretty much begged me to ask about the above Smile

Yikes Cheryl, sorry to hear.

I hope the optometrist will move her forward to an opthamologist. The changes/new symptoms are not what you want to hear.

Complex stuff no doubt...way above my pay grade.

Wishing good luck!

I am so sorry and saddened Cheryl, I have no words for poor Anna. The poor child is suffering for so long, and now this.
I will pray the vision loss is only temporary. Hugs to you all.

Cheryl,

I have been thinking about you and Anna all weekend. How did it go? How is she feeling. Is she doing any better?

Cheryl,

The last thing you and Anna need are more health issues. I hope it is just a temporary condition. Sending you good thoughts.
