New Neurologist? Empty New Neurologist?

Post  wannabefree Wed Aug 11, 2010 10:24 pm

Hello to everyone, I am new to this forum. I have chronic daily headaches and I get migraines 2-3 times a week. Like most folks here I could go on forever with my lists so I will share a short version. I have been on the list of meds just like everyone else. I tried triptans and was hospitalized with serotonin syndrome.

I currently just see a pain manager for my head issues, I kinda gave up on neurologists and their high and mighty selves after going to Mayo. The issue is now that I think its time to reexplore prevention meds. Up until just a few months ago I had never had a migraine just the daily headpain which started after I had pancreatitis.

I now get the full blown migraine with nausea and the last two I have had visual changes before. That scared the crude out of me.
I have had all the normal tests, mri, mrv, spinal tap, ect, all normal. I have also had facet injections with some relief. My pain dr is pushing for me to have a surgery done to sever the nerves in my neck and I am not sure if that is the choice I want to make yet.

So where to begin in my search? I am in Arizona, Phoenixish. Any recommendations would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, sounds like you have done everything you can and all the things that a lot of us have done. There was a woman 'PETZI " who had

that kind of surgury you metioned. I just looked but the post was old. You may be to that point.

I would have done it if I had the money. But Im glad I didnt have to decide. It sounds very extreme. But so are daily M.

Hope you find relief soon.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Severing the nerves in your neck is scary and rather drastic. But if that is the only way you get relief, then maybe it is worth it. If you go on a preventative, be very aware of the side effects. Some of them can be scary but if you find on that works and you tolerate the SE's then yay!

I'm in CA so don't have any recommendations for neurologists but check with any teaching hospitals in the area. Teaching hospitals seem to attract the neurologists who are more open to new ideas and techniques.
