Migraines after car accident
Has this happened to anyone else? I had a car accident last fall. My migraines were extreme after the accident for awhile. They have gotten a lot better but I still wonder if the car accident made them worse. I have a lawsuit against the driver as he was texting at the time of the accident. The case will be closed soon. I made an appointment with my neurologist since they never gave me an MRI after the accident. I was told my neuro had retired and that a Dr. Cornelius was taking over his patients. I asked if they had a migraine specialist and I was told yes. I said I wanted to try her. I was told that if I'm coming in because of a lawsuit I cannot see the migraine specialist and if I see the other guy (Dr. Cornelius) I cannot in the future see the migraine specialist. Does anyone know why this is so? Ticks me off.

Re: Migraines after car accident
Yes it happened to me. I had a rare migraine before a car accident 8 years ago then after I had nasty ones.
As for the doctor's - I have no earthly idea. I saw a neuro following my car accident - was diagnosed with post concussive disorder and it was used in the lawsuit. Had I known migraines would do this to me, I would have fought for more $ as I believe it was a triggering event.

I don't know why. But I find neuro treatment in Minnesota to be perplexing on many levels. I could tell you story after story after story.

Mine didn't become chronic until after a car rear-ended mine a couple of years ago. It was a nice older lady and there was no real damage to my car, so I didn't even bother getting her info. Wish I could have predicted how much toll those 5 seconds in time would have on my health and well-being - would have DEFINITELY got her insurance info if I had only known.

I'm not so sure the migraines will even help my case since I had a history before the accident. They are definitely different though.

Re: Migraines after car accident
Cheryl - thanks for the heads up. I just looked him up. Here is his credentials -
Board Certified – American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, 2009
Board Eligible – Sleep Medicine, 2010
Sounds like he is more interested in sleep disorders and I hope he doesn't relate migraines to psychiatric problems since he is board certified in that. Probably making a mistake. Doesn't make sense that I can't see a migraine specialist. Why should this have anything to do with an accident claim. I may just swtich clinics altogether after I see this guy (unless I really like him). Maybe being young and migraine being noticed for what they are more recently, he might be more up to speed. I'm not counting on it hough. Heck, the guy looks like he just got out of high school. Maybe I can teach him something!!

Neurology and psychiatry are always board certified together - can't get one without the other.

I smiled when I saw his photo--what a baby face! LOL.
I guess you can give him a try. Let us know how it goes, OK?

Cheryl - I will let you know how it goes. The appointment is August 8. After looking him up, I have a feeling I will know more than him about migraines.

i know in the states you do a whole lot more suing than us in the uk and dont know how it works over there but if you already had migraines before the acciddent a judge over here wouldnt let you sue for them.

Re: Migraines after car accident
Yeah, more headaches after my wreck in July 1989; and neck troubles. Also, one of my worst headaches immedistely afterwards.
I can't blame anyone else for the wredk, though. I fell asleep and rolled, landing drivers side down. I am lucky that I did not hit anyone else, and had no passangers.

Dawn - I also injured my ribs and had a brain concussion. I'm not the type to sue (a lot of work) but this is warranted. The driver of the other car was texting at the time. My migraines became worse but I don't know if they will consider that just because I already had them before. Just one more thing to consider though.
