Just checkin in on everyone...How's everyone doing? How are the heads?

I know it's been a long time since I've posted...and it's because I'm headache free...I haven't had a M in about 3 weeks now.

The DHE treatment, the daily Topomax/Nortriptlyne and the Biofeedback (I was released two weeks ago wahoooo!!) seemed to have done the trick for now. I'm very thankful to the good Lord because my husband and I finally have a marriage (we're newlyweds still, married in December, migraines started around January 1st.)

I don't know if I had to though, If I could do the DHE again, it was so scary and had so many uncomfortable side effects. But I guess the end results have been worth it. I filled my Relpax (abortive) on June 6th, and haven't had to take one yet!

I feel guilty going on about my good health, what I really want to know is how you all are doing ???

With continued prayers and support,

LL

No gulit necessary! WE ARE ALL THRILLED FOR YOU!!! Woohooo!

How long were you on DHE? Was it IV? Did you have to get a port? Can you discuss the side effects?

I am so happy for you and for your husband. I hope you have sunny days ahead!

I'm happy to share about the DHE...

I went in on a Monday morning, first treatment was at 2. IV port went in the arm. Treatments came every 8 hours after that. 15 minutes before a treatment I'd recieve a push of anti nausea..I can't remember which one I got this time. Then I'd get the DHE which would drip over a period of 30-45 minutes. Then I'd recieve steriods through the IV and then Magnesium. The magnesium was to keep the veins from collapsing. My treatments were at 2pm, 10pm, and 6am. My doctor was very specific that we were to be allowed to sleep from 11pm-6am without interruption, no vitals taken, etc. Because he feels sleep is the most important to M sufferers.

The magnesium after a day or two leaves a chalky taste in your mouth, soon everything you eat or drink taste like chalk.

The steriods caused me to bloat up horribly.

The DHE lowers your pulse rate extremely. My pulse rate got down into the low thirties..around 32. I have high BP but couldn't be given me BP medicine because it would lower my pulse rate even more, so my BP got a little out of control. These side effects occurred mostly after I left the hospital on Friday afternoon. I had 5 days of DHE. Which is the typical course my headache specialist does.

I'd had DHE before...2 1/2 days with another doctor...but it was at another hospital, and I was porly monitored. I wasn't given the anti naseau medicine soon enough and so I vomitted violently after each treatment.

It took me about a week after the treatment to get back to feeling normal. My stomach swelled up to the size of a watermelon as a result of all the saline that was pushed to flush out the system. It was very uncomfortable and hard to move around and get out of bed.

But as I said, the results, have been amazing. And each day I have with my husband that I don't have a headache, I am truly grateful for. I go back to the doctor on Tuesday and I will probably try and hug his kneck again and given that he's a shorter, older, man from Pakistan, he might find it strange, but I'll try. I'm very thankful to him, and the two times I've been to see him since treatment, I've cried tears of joy.
