Has anyone tried avoiding Annatto (E.160b)

Post  pen on Wed Jun 09, 2010 5:04 pm

I have just had a conversation with someone who got rid of her IBS when she worked out that this was causing the bloating etc.
So I googled it a bit and found some people who feel it can trigger migraines as well.

I understand we are being subject to this instead of tartrazine.
Has anyone any experience of this additive please?

Thanks

I see that it's often used in cheeses. Possibly it's the cheese and not the annatto. flower

Annatto is a "secret" name for MSG (which goes by probably 35 secret names). MSG is a potent migraine trigger for me. I always avoid annatto, among many, many other things.

MSG is a salt so it could cause bloating. I can't have it my diet at all. When I was pregnant with my son way back when, MSG was still used at chinese restaurants. I had some chinese food and swelled up like a balloon. It was awful. So that is when I started avoiding MSG. Since it also triggers migraines.. I really have to keep away from it.

We now have Chinese without MSG, but not all.
My Dad who was a baker was ahead of his time regarding MSG back in the 1960s.
He didnt like it at all.

I didnt realise it came in many disguises though.
