Hello,
My daughter has been diagnosed with migraines for a few months now. She is currently taking a Rx antihistamine (sp) for prevention. Tomorrow is her 3 month check up with her pediatric neurologist.

The meds helped for a few week and then she was back to having m almost everyday. These aren't curl up in a corner, pull up the blankets, and hide migraines. She wants to be held all day, doesn't want to get up in the morning, has a "tummy -ache", but still plays migraine.

I was wondering if there were any other moms with kids that suffer. Or if there was any insight to how to help ease her pain when she REFUSES to lay down.

I'm so sad to hear that. Poor baby and poor mom!

My daughter had migraines as a child also. She was in 2nd-3rd grade, so not nearly as young. But for some reason it does manifest as stomach ache in kids. She also was prescribed an antihistamine which seemed to help. It eventually went away, thank goodness.

About the only other thing that helped was a cool damp washcloth on her forehead. It's very soothing and they have to hold still to keep it in place (which is half the battle!) This worked wonders for getting her to sleep.

Good luck!

It is hard sometimes. I think (from what I have read on here) we have been blessed with a great neurologist. He listens to what I have to say and understands because his son also has migraine.

He told us to increase her dosage a little at a time and said if that didn't work we would look for other meds. We also invested in some dark sunglasses for her.

I have also used lavender and peppermint essential oils to help relieve her pain. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I just wish there was more information. For something that affects so many people, there is surprisingly little info.

Maybe one day we will have some answers and relief. *fingers crossed*

Hi, I'm sorry for your daughter's pain... You mentioned lavender oils. Have you tried "bi mat cay"? It's similar to tiger balm, but not as strong. Or perhaps those cooling migraine patches you place on your forehead or temples (I cut them in half for my temples). Just a thought... good luck.

Although I don't have any miracle advice on what to give her, I have to say that you sound like a very CARING mother and your daughter is lucky to have YOU...def not the migraines. That does break my heart for her though, because I have a 2 yr old and couldn't imagine her going through what I do. I'm very thankful for yall that you know what she has and she isn't suffering in silence just because she is so young. I wish yall the best and I pray she finds effective treatments...and hopefully doesn't have to live with them for long.
